Project Background
The project is specially targeted to the teachers and children in Upper Solu of Solukhumbu District. The population are made up of Sherpa, Thami, Tamang, Chhetri, BK, Newar, Rai and others. The major income source of people is subsistence agriculture and traditional based agriculture and cattle rising. Those were the main occupation of the people in previous period, but now urbanization is changing the concepts and their demand. People are now more engaged in service, business, and gradually less and less in agriculture as well as cattle raising. Those who still stick to the traditional rural life, are slowly modernizing their agriculture and husbandry pattern.

Construction and Reconstruction:
Under Educational Project we do some school related construction and reconstruction too. It depends on school needs and requirement as well as donor’s interest and economy.
Educational material:
As per the school’s request along with written application we do support for stationery, library book and science lab material.
Some enthusiastic teachers of rural area’s schools try to provide quality education by using educational material. But because of lack of resources, they can’t perform. In that case they always look for the supporting hands like local authorities, stakeholders, NGO’s/INGO’s etc. HIPRON with the help of HP supports for educational material, stationery, library and science lab material etc. which can be useful for educational purpose. It is not our scheduled program, but according to the need of school and budget availability.
Teacher’s Salary:
Quality education in the rural area is a major challenge. Sometimes there are less teachers, and sometimes even with enough teachers, the students can not be taught properly, as many teachers are not updated with changed curriculum. To improve the quality of education, we started supporting secondary level experienced teachers at Bhakanje School since 2018 of major subjects (English, Science & Maths). Those teachers were performing well in both academic and extra-curricular activities of school. The system established how to handle students and perform actively to follow today’s educational trend and method. This teachers support project is one of the projects where we can see the changes on overall operation system of school. Since 2018, even the Secondary Education Examination (SEE – class 10 exam) is quite satisfactory and even in 2023 Bhakanje school became the highest marks scoring school of the Likhupike Rural Municipality.
Scout:
At Bhakanje, a scout squad has been started with the initiative of decentralized government program in 2019. Few teachers from every school of Solukhumbu went to have training to be a scout leader. But few days scout training is not enough to be a good leader but anyhow they tried. Out of 38 school teachers who went for training only 5 started scouting in their school till date. One of the schools is Bhakanje School where teacher and headmaster Lhakpa Sherpa started scouting. With the financial support of Danish scout club supported 50% on scout uniform for 32 students of at establishment period. Later in 2020, 1st Scout Empowerment training conducted with the trainer’s team from Kathmandu for 3 days. 122 scouts and scouters from 4 different schools of Solu took part in the training and benefitted.
The main attractions of the training was First Aid Training, Knotting class, Adventure Activities (Superman Jump, Omega Jump and Para Jump) to empower them, and Camp fire, entertainment along with dance competition.
Days for Girls (DFG):
In 2019 autumn, we started DFG program at Bhakanje school for 6 to 10th grade girls. Its is mainly about the eco-friendly sanitary pads made by clothes. Bhakanje school is a secondary school and there are many adult girl students. Female toilet blockage used to be a general problem and one day it was found that girls used to throw commercial sanitary pads in toilet because of lack of knowledge, and to have menstruation is a shame, especially in front of men. To avoid that problem, we started the eco-friendly, re-usable (washable) sanitary pad program. In the beginning we also distributed to 8 health volunteers of Bhkanaje Health post to have their feedbacks. We carried out this project till 2021 and then again rural municipality started providing the sanitary pads in free of cost so we decided to stop. Hence, we concluded the project was quite successful although it was there for short period of time. We raised the awareness, which is ongoing.
